The page is HUGE due to the inline images - it would be faster/lighter/more convenient with the images compressed/cropped/resized. A bulk compress should be quick and easy, with proper rights to download/upload all images at once.

I will be adding and removing things from this lists while Im following the guide.

To add:

  • Add general parts requirement section, showing in one view the requirements for both router, server, and storage
  • 6.1 Remote Desktop Access says user is using SSH, while no general SSH instructions are provided (i think, might have missed it).
  • The text for the first setup steps in the Omada interface setup are missing (pictures are there).
  • Provide a warning for how long it will take when replacing a wireless setup. Have people know they will be switching back and forth old installation and new for a while, and how to do it, and thus have them manage some internet outage for the families lol.
  • No instructions for how to physically connect the wireless adapter (to the router/switch) are provided)
  • The text for the first setup steps in the Configuration of the OpenVPN Server setup are missing (pictures are there). It just says follow the images.

To change/address:

  • Installment of switch addressed earlier. At the start setup of the infrastructure uses a switch. However when setting the router, direct connection to desktop is mentioned from the router. Later on when creating the server, you wont have enough ports without the switch to continue the guide. A switch is needed, however the switch is only addressed very later on at the wireless adapter.
  • Installment of Wireless adapter should be move up. Adding wireless capability is almost at the end of the guide. For people like me who rely on it, it should be moved up or you will be spending a lot of time on the floor next to your modem.
  • The installment of Omada with Java versions seems outdated.
  • In the Omada controller firewall rule, it says LAN, but the images show rules on WAN and LAN.
  • Second image of the section of OpenVPN Configuration: Step 3: Configure OpenVPN Server is wrong. Links to image of user groups from the section before. PS. F*ck you Louis for uploading more than a 1000 images and making me look through them to find the correct one.
  • Headings of the guide which allow you to jump in the menu are a bit of a mess. Need clear structure.
    • 19-09-25: Started renaming, could really benefit from merging/moving sections, but dont I grant myself decision because Louis wrote it this way chronologically.
  • A catchier name / url for the guide might help spreading awareness/SEO. 'Self Managed Guide' kinda sounds like an self improvement $2.99 ebook scam. 'Wiki.futo.org' has no reference to a self managed guide in the name. Even just simply guide.futo.org would be better.
  • Making an edit fails more often than not on the first try, most likely due to the monolithic nature of the page with full images.
    • Seems (mostly) fixed, but addressing the large size of the page should be done.

Open questions

  • How do you headless input pw for decrypting LVM on reboot of server?
  • In 'Block maliciouswifi to everything' should we turn on 'Log packets that are handled by this rule'?
